70+ Ways to Save Black Boys in America during Black History Month

The authors provide an insightful and inspiring discussion on the plight of black boys and how to help them. The subject is timely during Black History Month and will certainly create emotional responses from individuals.

Knoxville, TN, India (PRBD.net) 2/9/2010 12:00:00 AM - Across the country, black boys are in trouble. Knoxville is no exception. Most parents and educators view the situation of black boys alarming. Dr. Daryl Green and Mr. Reggie Jenkins, offer their insight on the issues facing young black boys and provide practical solutions that can be implemented immediately. The authors are sharing information to parents, media, and community groups as part of the Black History Month Celebration.

The plight of black males in America is disturbing. Nationally, young black males account for 56% of juvenile drug offenders in residential placement. In fact, black males lead about every negative performance indicator, such as school drop out and unemployment rates nationally. Dr. Green and Mr. Jenkins are co-authors of the book, A Call to Destiny: How to Create Effective Ways to Assist Black Boys in America; this book seeks to provide ways for parents, educators, and supporters to assist these boys in their positive development.

The authors track what happens to young black boys in America. Mr. Jenkins argues, “With unemployment, racism, drug use, illiteracy, dysfunctional family structure, lack of positive role models, and prison incarceration on the rise, there is a dire need for workshops and conferences that address the issues confronting our male youth.” In the book, there are over 70 strategies to assist young males in achieving more productive lives. Dr. Green adds, “Without any intervention, young black boys, regardless of their social class, will not survive in the 21st century.” Dr. Green believes in building leadership. He discusses this concept with new leaders on his blog, NuLeadership Revolution. This book helps build future leaders. Proceeds from the e-book version go toward the UUNIK Academy to better assist these young boys.

Both authors are community-focused and results-oriented. Dr. Green is a nationally recognized lecturer and author of several books. He is an adjunct professor at Lincoln Memorial University (Tennessee) as well as a senior engineer for the Department of Energy. Mr. Jenkins is the founder and executive director of UUNIK Academy, a rites of passage program dedicated to holistic development of young males between the ages of 10-15. Mr. Jenkins is also a graduate of University of Tennessee (Knoxville) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Statistics. They lecture about the perplexing conditions of black males and offers practical solutions for parents, educators, and communities.

The authors are available for media interviews as well as speaking to businesses, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and local communities in better addressing the needs of young black males. For more information, please contact Reggie Jenkins at 865-384-4475.
