December 8 2010 - The first day of Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum (London ExCel, December 7-8)saw the largest delegation of international visitors in the event’s history. More than 1000 delegates – with international visitors making up some 400 from 50 countries - attended day one of the two-day British technology and science showcase hosted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Lord Brittan, Trade Adviser to the Government who attended the event, commented: “This is a platform for the UK’s leading technology and science industry to showcase its strengths to the world. There are some extremely impressive examples of technological innovation and scientific discovery– from early detection of disease through nano technologies to the impact of digital media on the 2012 Olympics. This event brings the international technology and science communities together –to work, invent and trade together; not only to grasp global investment opportunities but to help find answers to the societal and environmental challenges facing us today.”

The first day of Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum saw a conference programme of almost 50 speakers including Roger Mosey, BBC Director for London 2012 and Larry Hirst CBE, former Chairman of IBM EMEA, as well as more than 1000 face-to-face meetings take place between UK organisations and overseas delegates.

Edward Oakden, Managing Director UKTI Sectors Group, said: “International delegates looking to trade or invest in the UK are able to meet with hundreds of companies and academic institutions simply by attending this two-day event in London, whether meeting through panel discussion seminars, walking the exhibition floor or through the dedicated one-to-one meeting programme.

“The UK’s capital stock of foreign direct investment has reached US$1.0 trillion, second only to the USA, according to the Word Investment Report 2009,” continues Oakden. “To protect that position and remain at the forefront of technological developments, it is imperative that we continue to foster international relationships. It will be global meeting places such as this that will continue to boost this collaboration with international companies.”

Richard Nobel OBE of The Bloodhound Project will join speakers from Microsoft, O2 Telefonica, Cambridge University, Geneco and IBM on day two of Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum. Registration opens at 8.30am and tickets for day two will be available on the door, to find our more about this year’s show visit http://www.technologyworld.uk.com/. Technology World in partnership with UK NanoForum 2010
For 2010 the UKTI has brought together two previously successful events, Technology World and UK Nano & Emerging Technologies Forum, to create one major two-day event that showcases the best of UK science and technology to an international audience. Last year the two events jointly attracted over 1,700 visitors, facilitated more than 3,000 meetings between UK and overseas companies, and generated an estimated £118 million of potential business transactions. This year, the event will be held at the impressive ExCeL Convention Centre in London.
