Universal Careers offers basic skills workshops

Sometimes the first moments of an emergency are the difference between life and death. What people can- or can't- do in those moments are vital.

The Centers for Disease Control estimate that more than 17,000 children under 14 are treated in emergency rooms for choking related emergencies each year. Many times, EMT/paramedics are the first trained individuals to deal with and treat these emergencies.

Universal Careers, a national leader in EMT/paramedic training, offers workshops in basic lifesaving skills. These one-hour workshops provide participants with the knowledge they may need when confronted by an emergency. The skills covered during the training include CPR and basic treatment of choking or bleeding.

Universal Careers trains students to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians through an intensive hands-on program. Students learn from experienced EMT/paramedics with years of experience both in the field and in the classroom. They work with actual medical equipment and get time in actual medical settings such as hospitals and emergency rooms.

“Many emergencies are extremely time-sensitive,” said instructor Gary Fisher. “Knowing these basic lifesaving procedures can help patients survive until they can receive more intensive treatment.”

“These kinds of courses are important, and I would recommend them to anyone, especially parents of small children.”

Students in Universal Careers programs take this knowledge and other coursework into both private and public sector jobs to treat people in all types of emergencies, such as car accidents, natural disasters and home-related emergencies.

Universal Careers lifesaving workshops are held once every semester.
