Nothing beats the feeling when you're getting ready to jet off on a long-awaited holiday. Your last day at work is finally over, you've double-checked and triple-checked your flight times, and now your entire wardrobe is sprawled out across the bedroom floor in neat little piles of shorts, t-shirts, sandals and sunglasses.

Going away on holiday can be a surprisingly complex affair. Aside from finding the most suitable dates to fit around annual leave requirements, school holidays and the occasional volcanic eruption, there is always a seemingly endless list of things to prepare for and organise.

Given the enormity of the task, we generally strive to get these jobs done as quickly and easily as possible. Why then, do so many of us purchase our foreign currency from a travel agent or local Post Office, when buying travel money online has never been simpler?

South Africa beckons, but are you getting the best value for money?
An estimated 25,000 England fans will be heading to the World Cup this Summer, and many more are expected to flock to Cape Town in search of tickets, if England manage to progress to the latter stages of the competition.

England's pride in its national squad is unparalleled by any other nation on earth. As the birthplace of the world's biggest spectator sport, England has an undeniable passion for football that spans all counties, generations and ethnicities.

Such is the excitement surrounding the most important tournament on the football calendar, that many fans will forget to shop around for the best exchange rates and get less for their money as a result. South Africa is possibly one of the world's most beautiful countries, however fans will enjoy the experience even more if they have the maximum amount of money available to spend during their stay.

How do exchange rates for travel money compare online?
Any seasoned holidaymaker will tell you to shop around for the best exchange rate when buying foreign currency abroad, but how many of us shop around before we travel? It would be fair to say that most of us buy our travel money from the first Bureau De Change we see, usually located within a bank, Post Office or travel agent, but are we really getting the best deal?

It is easy to be taken in with offers including '0% commission', 'best buy-back rates' and so on, however exchange rates offered by each vendor can vary significantly so it is worth shopping around. Remember, the more foreign currency you obtain per pound sterling paid, the more money you will have to spend during your holiday.

We compared the selling rates offered by leading online travel money company, OnlineFX.com, against one of the UK's largest and most respected high street currency exchangers. For this exercise we compared rates for US Dollars, Euros and for World Cup travellers, the South African Rand.

For all three currencies, our findings were pretty conclusive. We discovered that OnlineFX.com were offering 1.41 Dollars for every Pound, versus 1.39 from the popular money changer. Further rates were 1.14 Euros versus 1.12, and football fans also enjoyed a great result with 10.45 South African Rand versus 10.21 on the high street.

The rates offered by OnlineFX.com also compared favourably against those offered by many other leading high street currency exchangers. Next time you're planning a trip abroad, it is therefore worthwhile shopping around for your travel money online, as doing so could result in more money to spend whilst you're away.
