World-renowned hair transplant surgeon Dr. Peter Goldman restores patients’ appearance, and confidence

For many men, thinning hair loss is one of the most obvious signs of aging, and can often be embarrassing and distressful. Fortunately, Los Angeles surgeon Dr. Peter Goldman is a world-renowned expert in the field of hair transplant surgery.

Dr. Goldman, who practices at Goldman Dermatology & Laser in California, says that, while women can experience hair loss, hair loss is far more common among males. Male hair loss is usually characterized by a receding hairline, which can first appear in men around the age of 20. Receding hairlines are caused by a genetic sensitivity of the hair follicles to the hormone, dihydrotestosteron (DHT). DHT causes hair follicles to shrink, and weakens hair re-growth, causing the hair that does grow to be shorter than normal.

While many cases of hair loss are treated with nonsurgical methods, including scalp injections and supplements to stimulate hair re-growth, Dr. Goldman recommends hair transplant surgery when other methods have failed to correct the issue. Micrograft and follicular unit transplant (FUT) is a procedure that redistributes healthy hair follicles from non-thinning areas of hair to areas of thinning hair. This gives the patient a more natural appearance, according to Dr. Goldman.

In men, healthy hair follicles are generally found toward the back of the head. During the procedure, Dr. Goldman will choose hairs of various textures for transplant, and relocate the hair to areas where it is most needed. Sutures will then close the area from which the hair was removed. The follicles are then carefully prepared for placement in the balding area by Dr. Goldman.

Dr. Goldman says that the results of a hair transplant surgery are permanent, and will give the patient extremely natural-looking results. He adds hair growth will continue to improve for up to a year after the procedure. Patients should start to see their results within 6 months. Dr. Goldman works closely with each of his patients, providing stellar results, and personalized care.

Dr. Goldman practices alongside dermatologist and skin pathologist, Dr. Brian E. Dubow, at Goldman Dubow Dermatology & Laser in Los Angeles, California. Interested parties are encouraged to contact 310.855.1160, or to visit http://www.gdderm.com.
