West Yorkshire, United Kingdom (October 15, 2010) – Brighouse based wire products manufacturer Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd. saw their Escort Mk 1 race to victory in the Trackrod Historic Cup on September 25th.
The race brought the curtain down on the Dunlop/Wonago.com MSA British Historic Rally Championship season, with the competitors tackling the timeless Yorkshire forest stages. This popular rally attracted a field of 66 historic entries, and was a fitting end to an outstanding 2010 season of historic rallying.
The race for the title was decided over four long stages around the Langdale and Dalby forests. The C3 Class produced one of the most keenly contested battles of the season. Going into the stages the field was headed by Yorkshiremen Andrew Siddall and Captain Thompson in their Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd sponsored Escort Mk1. Siddall & Thompson already had the class title under their belts, yet they faced a determined challenge at their home rally from James Slaughter and Phil Peak (Escort Mk1), as well as from other equally determined contenders.
Slaughter and Peak tried to overtake Siddall & Thompson, until they reached Housedale and made a 30 second excursion into another Yorkshire ditch. Slaughter and Peak then unsuccessfully tried to gain ground on Siddall and Thompson.
Following the resounding victory, Siddall said: "We found the first two stages very treacherous, but progressed well over the two final stages. It’s a fantastic achievement to win and I'd like to thank Siddall & Hilton Products for their support this year, and Dansport for preparing a reliable and competitive car. We enjoyed competing, and look forward to doing it again in the future."
