Award-winning Brisbane builder Indigo Homes won yet another gong recently when the Queensland Master Builders Association gave the Best Small Lot Home under $400,000 award to Indigo’s popular new home design Sanctuary 247.
Recently revamped and upgraded again to the Caribbean 248, the home is one of Indigo’s best selling designs for narrow lot and inner city living. It is a key part of the Indigo Compacts range.
Indigo Compacts were developed to address the increasing trend towards smaller lots.
“Remember when the standard was a quarter - acre block?” says director Chris La Franchi. “Well those days are never going to come again. Increasingly Queensland developers are developing estates with great public amenities and smaller private spaces.”
The rise of the small lot might be good for sustainability and affordability, but not all builders have embraced it with a product range that’s designed to suit. Most other builders have floorplans that are just a little too wide, or worse, take up the whole lot with the house.
Indigo has spent a lot of time designing new homes that maximise living space inside without sacrificing the living space outside.
This is not easy as it sounds. It takes a different kind of design approach to make internal spaces work hard so there’s absolutely no wasted space.
Indigo Homes colour consultant Janey Dopson deals with new homeowners all day long. She says that the homes in the Indigo Compact Caribbean series are the most popular homes in the Indigo range. She believes that’s because lot sizes are much smaller and people like the fact that they can have a double story that fits so well on a small lot.
“They love the fact that they can get four bedrooms and two living areas,” Dopson says. “So they really like the version with the separate living area upstairs and the living and al fresco area downstairs.”
The range of Indigo Compact homes, especially designed by Indigo Homes and external to suit small lots and the award-winning Caribbean home are available to view online and on display.
