Harrington ,Maine -October 29, 2010/Harrington, Maine - WorcesterWreath.com announced this week the creation of a new ‘Let Freedom Ring’ Recognition Award to honor who quietly show their appreciation for our veterans and active military. The first recipient of the monthly award will be Ms. Suzette Mule´ from Billings, MT, being recognized for her home-baked welcomes given to deployed servicemen and women upon their return to Montana.
Worcester Wreath patriarch Morrill Worcester, best known as founder of Wreaths Across America (http://www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org) explains, “Over the years I’ve had the honor to meet many amazing people who dedicate themselves to helping veterans, active military, and their families.”
Worcester added that the idea behind the award was to recognize other like-minded individuals whose daily acts of patriotism might otherwise go unnoticed. Worcester added “We believe it is important to show our veterans your appreciation in whatever you do. We started doing it twenty years ago with our wreaths and Ms. Suzette Mule´ is doing it with her apple pies. We just loved hearing her story and wanted more people to know about it.
Ms. Mule´ from Billings Heights, Montana, started Operation Apple Pie to make sure that each returning member of the U.S. Armed Forces is greeted at the airport by an entourage of grateful citizens and with a freshly baked apple pie.
Mule´ was first joined by Dick Fletcher of American Legion Post 119 of Billings Heights in welcoming the returning servicemen and women. Now welcoming parties include Billings police, firemen, Marines, veterans organizations, senior citizen groups, and Boy Scouts.
In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Mule will receive the first monthly award from WorcesterWreath.com and during the holiday season, a ‘Let Freedom Ring’ wreath specially designed to spotlight the patriotic spirit.
Worcester’s own contribution to honoring veterans has now grown into the national day of remembrance observed nationwide on the second Saturday of December. Wreaths Across AmericaTM (WAA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has grown quickly to encompass over 500 participating locations and 160,000+ volunteers around the Country.
The Wreaths Across America's mission is to Remember, Honor, and Teach. Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve including their families who sacrifice, and Teach our children the cost of the freedoms we enjoy each day. It is our shared belief that... 'The nation which forgets its defenders will soon be forgotten.' (30th President Calvin Coolidge).
WAA pursues its mission with nation-wide wreath-laying events amid the holiday season, and year-round educational outreach inviting all Americans to appreciate our freedoms and the cost at which they are delivered.
