Mis-Sold Payment Protection Insurance? Time To Fight The Banks
Mis-Sold Payment Protection Insurance? Time To Fight The Banks
The financial sector has for too long got away with payment protection insurance (PPI) mis-selling. Despite significant flaws in the selling process, banks are still hesitant to return PPI.

A recent article published in The Telegraph very much encompassed what everyone would want to say about Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) but probably don’t dare or have the column space to write it.
The very well written column, went on to criticise the banking sector for the PPI mis-selling scandal that has left hundreds of thousands of UK consumers out of pocket. The author Paul Farrow goes on to comment that “Over the years, hundreds of thousands of people have been pressurised into buying this expensive product because they thought that it was compulsory, or that it was part of the loan agreement. Many people, such as the self-employed, signed on the dotted line even though they were ineligible to claim. The evidence against the mis-selling of PPI is extensive. Investigation after investigation has found that providers are not playing fair.”
The article also went on to highlight that despite a growing number of complaints being escalated to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), financial consumers were still being treated badly by banks. The UK’s British Bankers’ Association it seems is making little headway in improving their service and have recently challenged the Competition Commission’s reforms to ban the sale of PPI at point of sale.
Farrow concluded his article by quoting commentary from Which? that said “"It makes you wonder what planet the banks are living on. Not content with the billions they have made from this overpriced, flawed and frequently mis-sold product, the banks now seem to be trying to wriggle out of implementing changes that would ensure consumers are treated fairly.”
