Cardiff, United Kingdom (12 November 2010) - Innermost Secrets, a leading fertility clinic, provide an educational symposium for patients and medical professionals.
Cardiff-based private fertility clinic, Innermost Secrets, was the first in the UK to launch a service for pregnant women at risk of premature birth and late miscarriage earlier in 2010. In 2011 they will be raising awareness of being ‘Born Too Soon’ with an educational symposium for patients and professionals.
Based on a simple vaginal swab, the Fetal Fibronectin test predicts with 99.8 percent accuracy that the mother will not deliver her baby in the next 2 weeks. Since the launch of this test with Innermost Secrets, this service has given many women more confidence during their pregnancies and given others the chance to try again, knowing that something can be done to help them carry their baby to term.
Dr Bryan Beattie, Consultant in Fetal Medicine and Director of Innermost Secrets, said: "I was delighted when we were able to start offering this service and the impact has been great for women who have had a previous pregnancy complicated by premature delivery or a late miscarriage. That experience is devastating for expectant parents, many of whom think that once you are past the first 12 weeks then the danger is over only to have found that pregnancy is highly unpredictable. But now, at long last, we have a highly reliable test which can identify women who may go into labour too soon. Through the ‘Born Too Soon’ event we are hoping that many more people will learn that this service is available so that we can help more women and babies.”
Innermost Secrets and Dr Beattie are keen for parents and professionals to know about this test and the women and babies who may be at risk of delivering early. To raise awareness they are running an educational event in Cardiff called ‘Born Too Soon’ which is free to attend. Speakers include Dr Beattie of Innermost Secrets and University Hospital of Wales, Professor Sailesh Kotecha of the Department of Child Health, Cardiff University and a representative of BLISS, a leading special care baby charity. It is hoped that the first pregnancy being monitored with fetal fibronectin testing will have resulted in a healthy happy baby born at the right time and that he or she can make a guest appearance.
The free event is being held at the Village Hotel, Cardiff on 27th January 2011 at 6.30pm for midwives, nurses, students, doctors and midwives and other interested healthcare professionals. Parents and parents to be are also invited.
