Tie Rack Launches a Range of High Quality, Affordable Snoods

Traditionally an item worn for function over fashion, the snood is making its way back from the 1800’s in a modern and uber sheik way. Set to be one of the biggest trends of the season, just why has this piece of headwear attracted so much attention?

Conventionally a piece of headwear worn in the food service and industrial sectors to protect the hair, the snood dates back to the 1860’s at which time it was predominantly made of lace, in a shape that wrapped around the top of the head and under the hair to the nape of the neck. It was somewhat ugly and more of a fashion faux pas than a design inspiration.

Designer’s have seemingly taken this ladies accessory and turned it on its head, doing away with the unsightly lace and replacing it with more often than not, knitted wool. The shape has changed from the tight and restrictive design to a modern tubular shape that can be worn in a multitude of ways.

The first sight of this new look ladies snood was on fashion runways worldwide early last year with high end fashion houses showcasing this ladies accessory but the general consensus was that this not quite a scarf and not quite a hat accessory would possibly not make it to the mainstream markets.

In fall 2009 some higher end designer brands introduced a small and selected range of ladies snoods to their stores, but access to these were limited for your average lady shopping on the high street.
