Choosing the right shampoo, especially if you have got the wig colored, is the first prudent step to be taken. This should be followed by choosing just the right conditioner. Do not hesitate to get advice from the wig dealer with respect to the product brands to be used.
- Entangling the hair on your wig is essential. You must do this with care and by holding the wig firmly at the point where it touches the center of your head, use a wide-toothed comb to brush several soft strokes to untangle any knots and style your hair.
- You could make your own leave-in conditioner by diluting your regular conditioner in the ratio 1:1 with water and spraying it on the wig.
- Brushing strokes should ideally go from bottom to the top.
- To add volume and softness to the hair fibers, use a moisturizing shampoo and rinse and soak the hair in a basin with lukewarm water.
- Do not scrub or jerk the hair while washing with shampoo, and before you apply conditioner rinse the wig in cold water (cold water retains the shine).
- Use cold water even post application of the conditioner. Squeeze the water out by gently pressing the hair and not by twisting or twirling it. Use a towel to blot all the extra moisture and place it on your wig stand to let it dry off. If in a hurry, you could use a blow dryer.
- Use a good quality leave-in conditioner to add that final glossy touch.
