Weld Delux Provides Insight on Welding and Fabrication

Here’s an insight on welding and fabrication and their manifold benefits to the industry

Haven’t we seen on TV, where two metals are fused together permanently to produce a perfect piece of art? So what is welding and what does fabrication mean? Read further, as Mr. Andrew Cooper, discusses about the art of welding and fabrication in detail.

“Welding as described by the American Welding Society (AWS) means –‘A material joining process that produces a fusion of materials, by heating them to a suitable temperature with or without pressure and with or without the use of a filler material’. Speaking in common parlance, a welder applies heat to a base metal thus melting it and fusing the parts together. Sometimes a filler metal is applied to replace the base metal thereby increasing the strength of the joint. There are several welding processes. Common among them are arc welding, brazing, oxyfuel gas welding, resistance welding and solid state welding. Besides these you also have gas metal arc, plasma arc, dip brazing, pressure gas welding …the list is endless. However, most welders use the MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welder, says Mr. Andrew Cooper.

“At Weld-Delux, we ensure, we use TIG (GTAW – Gas Tungsten Arc Welding ( http://www.weld-delux.co.uk/ ) ), MIG (GMAW-– Gas Metal Arc Welding), and MMA for stainless steel welding. TIG and MIG are used for aluminum welding as well. In addition to the above processes, FCAW is used for Carbon and mild steel welding. We also use brazing and soldering processes for other metals.”

“Fabrication on the other hand involves manipulation of raw materials to make machines and structures. The process is achieved by cutting, bending and assembling metals. These are typically used to make structural frames for buildings and other heavy equipments. In short fabricators help to build the shell of the product, and the final product is based on the shell made by these fabricators,” he adds.

“Fabrication is an essential aspect of manufacturing, without which it’s impossible to enjoy anything that’s built from metals. For example, at Weld-Delux ( http://www.weld-delux.co.uk/ ), we offer fabrication services to a wide array of industries that include, oil and gas, construction, aviation, food processing, and ship building industries. Besides these, we’ve also helped pharmaceutical and chemical industries and help them in building pressure vessels and steel tanks. Fabrication needs skill and expertise, where the fabricator is required to possess a keen eye for spotting inherent weaknesses in the design and creating workarounds.”
