Los Angeles, CA -- January 01, 2011 -- The debut of Oprah Winfrey's new OWN network and starter show “Kidnapped by the Kids” highlights what many Americans are already fully aware of; there are far too many homes where only one parent works, too many homes where there is more time spent with the Blackberry instead of the family and far too many homes where there are long lonely nights spent waiting for Daddy to come home from work.
In today's workaholic society technology has replaced family dinners, spouses & children spend more time trying to convince working family members to relax and have fun while simultaneously trying to maintain sufficient financial reserves and maintain one's daily life. In “Kidnapped by the Kids” Hank is allowed time off by his boss in order to go camping and bond with his family, a luxury many Americans can hardly afford.
With nearly double digit unemployent rates and rising fuel costs many Americans can only wish that they were able to focus more time on their familiar obligations and on having fun instead of being forced to maintain the family's lifestyle on a single salary. Author Sharifah Hardie expressed her views on “Kidnapped by the Kids” in terms of “an excellent choice by Oprah Winfrey to continously remind all of us that there are more important things in life than work, such as spending time with friends & family.”
Sharifah is no stranger to hard work and making sacrifices for her family. After being laid off six times Sharifah used her repeat layoffs and work experience to create her online success as Google’s #1 ranked “Professional Business Consultant” and host of “Ask Sharifah Radio.” In her new book, And Here’s Your Box – From Laid Off to Loving Life! Sharifah discusses those moments of sheer frustration she experienced which gave her the strength to utilize the skills she acquired in the workforce and take care of her two children.
