Seattle, WA, January 03, 2011 -- Help celebrate Robert Stanek’s birthday today (Jan. 3) by taking a journey to Bugville. Share the joy of Bugville by reading and sharing the new book Buster Explores the Sea or any other Bugville Critters book.
Buster and Lass are little bugs with Big dreams. Their dreams take them to extraordinary places. In Buster Explores the Sea, Buster and Lass’s dreams take them on a journey aboard the S. S. Bug as it journey far out into the deep blue sea. When Buster and Lass put on scuba suits and dive into the sea, they meet a kaleidoscope of undersea creatures from sea horses to angel fish and a mamma sea turtle and her babies. "Parents are going to have as much fun reading this zany adventure as young children have listening," said publisher Jeannie Kim.
Like Buster’s Really Great Big Top Show, this story is full of humor and also serves as a springboard to a series of related educational books. In Buster’s Undersea Counting Expedition 1 to 10, children are invited to child find and count Buster’s new undersea friends as they arrive. Can any child do this? You bet they can. Not only does the book help build counting skills from 1 to 10, it also helps build grouping skills by 2s.
For a child who has mastered counting to ten already, there’s Buster’s Undersea Fish Counting Expedition 1 to 20. In this book, children are invited to find and count up to 20 undersea friends as they arrive. Like the beginner book which goes from 1 to 10, this book features a variety of undersea creatures and is designed to make learning an adventure. In addition to build counting skills from 1 to 20, the book also helps to build grouping skills by 2s and 4s.
"Robert Stanek’s vivid imagination is the driving force behind the Bugville Critters books. His picture books and the adventures of his critters are as imaginative and fun as Dr. Seuss'," said publisher Jeannie Kim. "In one story, the bugs are exploring outer space. In the next, they're circus performers or scuba divers or pirates.
"But the Bugville stories are also down to earth and very real, such as in Have a Bad Day when Lass has an encounter with a stranger or in Stay After School when Lass’ learning disability makes her feel stupid. And that’s what makes the books so special."
Robert Stanek uses the integrated set approach often in the Bugville Critters books. The original Buster adventures (Visit Dad and Mom at Work, Go to School, Have a Sleepover, Visit Garden Box Farms, Go on Vacation, Play Their First BIG Game, and Rush to the Hospital) tell the story of Buster’s and his working-class family. His mom and dad are factory workers. Readers go to work with Buster and his parents at the factory, join Buster for his first day of school, see the birth of Buster’s twin siblings and watch Buster play in the Little Bug League Tournament of Champions. Baseball, friends, and family are all important themes in the books.
The original Lass adventures (Have Trouble at School, Break Their Bad Habits, Stay After School, Have a Bad Day, Visit City Hall, Have a Surprise Party, Have a Backyard Picnic, and Compete in the BIG Spelling Bee) tell the story of Lass and her family. Lass’s learning disability is a big part of the story as are her efforts to overcome her disability. Those efforts start with her trouble at school and build up to the big spelling bee where she triumphs after a lot of hard work.

About the Author
Robert Stanek quietly worked on the Bugville Critters for 15 years and was satisfied with only the gleeful cheers, laughs and giggles of his children who delighted to hear his tales of Bugville and the little bugs who lived there. Robert’s children are the ones who urged him o get the books published so other children could share in the adventures they so cherished. While Robert worked on getting the original 28 books to print from 2004 to present, he continued writing and developing new stories.
