Most B-schools fall short of internationalization parameters, say thought leaders at AIMA conference

With Indian businesses going global, the need of the hour is for Indian B-schools to anticipate the industry’s growing requirements for managers with global mindsets. With Indian businesses going global, the need of the hour is for Indian B-schools to anticipate the industry’s growing requirements for managers with global mindsets. This was the focus of discussion, following the inauguration of the two day National Research Conference hosted by AIMA on 12th January, 2010 in New Delhi. Leading academicians, eminent Deans & Directors of top B-schools, industry leaders and also top officials from Government of India addressed the first day of the conference.

Delivering the Keynote Address at the conference, Mr. Narendra Jadhav, Member, National Advisory Council & Member, Planning Commission, Government of India emphasized on the need for Indian B-schools to participate actively in globalization through faculty exchanges and increasing student enrollment ratio.

Welcoming the delegates to this conference, Dr. Raj Agrawal, Director, AIMA-CME said, “Through this conference, we will examine the current standard and impact of globalization in Indian B-schools. We will also discuss the key triggers that push B-schools to the path of globalization and what they plan to do in future.”

Prof. M.R. Rao, Dean Emeritus & Professor, Indian School of Business, spoke about the components of globalization. He urged B-schools to address the problem of acute faculty shortage that most B-schools are facing. He stated that B-schools must attract more foreign faculty to provide global perspective to the Indian educators and students and facilitate team teaching.

Discussing the vision of B-schools on globalization, Dr. Debashis Sanyal, Dean, School of Business Management, NMIMS, emphasized that vision alone is not enough, action is required by B-schools. B-schools must develop curriculums that meets global needs and caters to the requirement of the business world.

Mr. Amit Agnihotri, Chairman, MBAUniverse.com, delved into the numbers on the extent of globalization in Indian B-schools. Presenting data on top 20 Indian B-schools, based on MBAUniverse.com B-School Rankings 2010, he explained the gaps that even the top B-schools seemed to have in their efforts to Globalize.

Sahay, Director, IIM-Raipur; Dr. JD Singh, Director General, Jaipuria Institute of Management; Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Senior Director, Education Initiatives, National Association of Software & Service Companies (NASSCOM) among others.
