No-Work Spanish Offers New Practice Spanish Listening Test to those Learning Spanish

No-Work Spanish is now offering a practice test for those taking Spanish listening comprehension exams. The practice exam is freely available on their website (http://www.noworkspanish.com). The New York State Department of Education publishes written copies of previous years' Spanish Regents exams, but students reviewing have no way to hear the listening comprehension section. The new practice test is a recorded reading of the teacher's dictation portion of the June 2009 exam, chosen because it currently was not included in any paid Regents Spanish Review guides either.
"Originally, we had planned to include a copy of the practice exam on one of our No-Work Spanish audiobook CDs," said Anne Emerick, creator of No-Work Spanish, "but the Department of Education rules about including any of their exam materials in commercial products are complicated. I don't have a legal staff, like the big publishing firms do, so I decided to just post the recording on our website and make it freely available."
No-Work Spanish audiobooks are based on the idea that one can learn Spanish by listening to stories read with each sentence said first in English, then in Spanish. Hearing the English allows listeners to follow the story regardless of their Spanish knowledge. At the end of the chapter, the chapter is repeated entirely in Spanish. Because learning Spanish from No-Work Spanish audiobooks emphasizes listening skills, the company was interested in using listening comprehension tests as a way of measuring learning.
