Kent, UK - January 19, 2011 -- You will have to wear comfortable clothing if you are going to be able to relax during the trip. Many people will want to wear their best clothing when they are travelling but this can often mean that they are not very comfortable. When taking a long haul trip you would be much better off wearing loose jeans or tracksuit bottoms with t-shirts and or sweaters. And wearing layers is a good idea because that way you can add and remove the layers as you get too hot or too cold.
If you want to be able to see the country you are passing through you will need to book a window seat in advance. If there is no way to pre-book seats then you will have to make sure you get on the train before most of the other passengers to get a window seat and the best way to do this is to arrive early at the station.
There are many different types of travel pillow available to buy and these can really improve the comfort level of a trip. A travel pillow is something that really can make a difference on a journey and the great thing about them is that they are small enough to fit in your hand luggage.
It is a good idea to at least have a little spare cash for the train so that you can buy snacks and drinks. Don't be of the opinion that you won't need to use money because you have a card because you may not be able to use a card on the train.
You should take some sort of entertainment with you to pass the time such as a mobile gaming device or MP3 player.
It is much fun getting an English ferry when visiting England. Others still like to go via the Channel Tunnel (tunnel sous la manche). For those wanting to stay in England, these ways are the best means of getting there.
