London, 25 January 2011– Publishing Technology plc (LSE: PTO), the largest provider of software and services to the publishing industry, today announced the latest signing for its pub2web platform, by Dutch academic publisher BRILL.
A long-standing ingentaconnect customer, BRILL will continue its eleven-year partnership with Publishing Technology as it upgrades its online hosting solution to the pub2web platform. The portal - a custom site, designed and built to host and deliver any type of content - will integrate BRILL’s journal and book content within a single resource for the first time.
BRILL anticipates that the new website, which at launch will host approximately 110,000 journal articles and 25,000 book chapters, will become a trusted tool for students, researchers and teachers; a tool that will excel in the discovery and delivery of online content through one central portal.
The state-of-the-art publications platform will benefit from the very latest Semantic Web technologies to enhance the user experience, enrich and add value to content assets, increase discoverability and cross reference and promote related content which may be of interest to readers.
Sam Bruinsma, Director of Business Development, BRILL, commented: “BRILL is proud to extend its partnership with Publishing Technology with our new venture. Publishing Technology is our trusted partner, who we know are the experts in handling journal and book content, and with them we are guaranteed a platform that complies with industry standards and is flexible enough to support our current and future needs. The platform will support a range of business models, including Patron Driven Acquisition, allowing for easy experimentation in what is, increasingly, a changing market. pub2web also offers us increased control over our online presence, workflow efficiencies and close integration with our other systems – all key criteria for a successful online platform.”
Louise Tutton, Chief Operating Officer of Publishing Technology's Online Services Division, comments: “I am very pleased to announce our continued partnership with BRILL. As BRILL has been a most valued customer for over a decade, we are delighted that pub2web has been selected to showcase their impressive collection of book and journal content. With users looking beyond the traditional content wrappers of “journals” and “books”, instead seeking content which is relevant and authoritative within their field regardless of whether it is an article or chapter, BRILL is a prime example of a publisher looking to respond to user demand by tailoring their online platform to the changing needs of their audience. Within the current economic climate, now more than ever being able to easily capitalize on the latest business models for online delivery and experiment with Semantic Web and mobile technologies, to embrace new opportunities for both the publisher and the reader is critical to remaining competitive.“
