Munich, Germany, February 10, 2011 -- Brainloop announced today that RWE, one of Europe’s leading electricity, gas and water utilities with over 70,000 employees, has chosen its Brainloop Secure Dataroom solution to extend the portfolio of IT solutions it uses to securely share confidential documents.
The company selected the Brainloop Secure Dataroom, a web-based Document Compliance Management solution, following a rigorous evaluation process and now uses it to complement its existing procedures for sharing documents with staff from other companies. The easy yet secure access to documents over the Internet, along with the guaranteed protection while sharing sensitive information, were just two of the reasons for RWE’s decision to use Brainloop’s high-security, cloud-based service.
Company departments and business units throughout the RWE group are now able to order their own access to a data room. With no need to install hardware or software on users’ desktops, the Brainloop Secure Dataroom is available for immediate use and reliably safeguards all the information stored in it. The documents are protected from access by unauthorized users with a two-factor login using a password and a one-time PIN texted to the user’s cell phone. An optional watermark is also available as additional protection to prevent the document from unauthorized forwarding once it has been downloaded.
Andreas Ebert, from Group Security at RWE, is convinced of the solution’s benefits. "With the Brainloop Secure Dataroom, we now have a web-based solution optimally aligned with our group’s information protection policies which govern the way we work with third parties," he comments. "We are recommending to all our company departments, as well as to firms we have equity in, that they use the data room solution for all their information classified as confidential or strictly confidential. The intuitive interface gives them a convenient solution that’s easy to use while increasing the efficiency of our project-related processes. That makes our business easier."
The manager of each Brainloop Secure Dataroom decides who has access to the information contained in it and which permissions each user has. The solution also includes operator shielding to ensure that system administrators cannot access data room content. Read and write permissions are defined within the data room and stored there along with each document. Outside the data room, document protection can be extended to the desktop by combining the Brainloop Secure Dataroom with digital rights management (DRM) solutions from Microsoft and Adobe. This fulfills the requirements for the best level of protection for RWE’s intellectual property in confidential projects.
Frank Wendiggensen, from IT Governance at RWE IT, says: "In our view, the fact that Brainloop’s solution is integrated with DRM makes it a viable solution for the future, as we want to maintain ownership of information protection over the long term."
RWE is currently using the Brainloop Secure Dataroom to work on renewable energy projects as well as in joint ventures. The company is about to extend the use of data rooms to other business units.
