New Website Covers Innovation Across the SouthWest

Bristol, UK – 10th February 2011 - A new website launched today is providing the latest news on innovation across the SouthWest of the UK.
SW Innovation News (www.swinnovation.co.uk) is written by a team of experienced science and technology journalists living in one of the world’s hottest regions for technology and innovation.
Backed by key networking organisations in the region, the site also makes use of the expertise of the writers to identify opportunities for companies and research organisations to collaborate, both within the region and globally.
The SouthWest, centred on Bristol and Bath but extending to Exeter and Plymouth, is one of the leading areas for innovation in the world with world class companies, universities and research labs, with strong clusters in silicon design, aerospace and creative industries. A recent report by the UK government’s innovation group NESTA identified the region as key cluster for technology development.
“Innovation is a global business, but it starts with one-to-one contact and that’s mostly local,” said Nick Flaherty, publisher and editor-in-chief. “That’s how Silicon Valley became as strong as it has, but times have changed. Identifying opportunities through the news is a great way to stimulate opportunities and point them in the right direction for the assistance that is available in the region for ventures both small and large.”
The site is backed by founding sponsors SouthWest Microelectronics iNet and SiliconSouthWest. The iNets – covering microelectronics, aerospace and advanced engineering, environmental technologies, biomedical and creative industries – are officially launched today, and the Microelectronics iNet provides support for small and medium sized companies. SiliconSouthWest is the networking organisation for silicon design in the SouthWest.
SW Innovation News is providing daily news on the innovation happening across the region, from silicon and software, through aerospace and advanced materials to medical and environmental technologies. “We are agile enough and experienced enough to look at what’s happening right now and highlight the real opportunities,” said Flaherty.
