San Francisco, CA – 26 February 2011, - A new infographic released by SF Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, “Top 10 Cities for Plastic Surgery,” (http://sfcosmeticsurgery.com/blog/top-10-best-us-cities-for-plastic-surgery/) provides an up-to-date look at the increasing demand for plastic surgery—and where in the U.S. that demand is being met.
Combining information culled from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the U.S. Census Bureau, the infographic highlights which U.S. cities lead the nation in the number of plastic surgeons per capita. Miami is at the top, with 18 plastic surgeons for every 100,000 people over the age of 18; Atlanta comes in second with 15.9. Dallas and San Francisco are neck and neck with 10.5 apiece, and Sacramento is close behind with 10.3. Baltimore, Nashville, Louisville, Seattle, and Washington, DC bring up the rear.
“It’s not surprising to me that San Francisco is in the top five for plastic surgery cities,” says San Francisco plastic surgeon Dr. Usha Rajagopal. “People come from all over the country to seek treatment here—we have a reputation for maintaining an extremely high standard of care, and for staying on the cutting edge when it comes to new innovations in cosmetic technology.”
“Top 10 Cities for Plastic Surgery” also gives statistics on the most popular plastic surgery procedures in 2010, broken down into three categories: cosmetic surgical, cosmetic minimally-invasive, and reconstructive plastic surgery. The numbers show that breast augmentation and nose reshaping are the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries, while Botox and soft tissue fillers (such as collagen, Restylane, and Sculptra) are the most commonly performed minimally-invasive procedures; they also show that number of surgical cosmetic procedures increased by 2% in 2010, and the number of minimally-invasive procedures increased by 5%.
“The high number of plastic surgeons in these ‘top ten’ cities is reflective of the increasing number of people who are pursuing plastic surgery options,” says Dr. Rajagopal. “The reason that there are so many plastic surgeons in San Francisco is that so many people look for them here; our services are very much in demand.”
