The NBA Trading drama came to its climax last week leaving many teams in pleasure, regret, surprise or even shock. Orlando Magic got the biggest shock of this trading season when they got the news of blockbuster deal between New Jersey Nets and Utah over the trading of Utah point guard Deron Williams to Nets. According to Otis Smith, President of Basketball Operations for Magic, though they did not make any offer for Williams but still Utah’s decision to trade league’s number one point guard to Nets came as a shock to them. If sources are to be believed Net and Utah finalized the William’s deal so secretly and quickly leaving no room for Magic or other teams to guess about his availability.
Orlando Magic did not make any deal on the trading last day and Alex Martins, President of Orlando Magic confirmed that he is satisfied with his current squad. Another reason Magic could not make any deal is Troy Murphy; they are waiting for Troy to become a free agent however Troy has been traded to Golden State Warriors where he received a buyout and according to rumors Troy is leaned towards Boston Celtics or Miami Heat as his next team in case he clears his waives and released by Warriors. So it’s unlikely for Magic to get 6-foot-11 forward/center on their roaster to strengthen up their center force along with the Magic’s only real center Dwight Howard.
The last date for waving player is Tuesday, March 01, 2011 and Orlando Magic would be praying for nothing but a Troy Murphy miracle to change his mind in their favor.
Orlando Magic is currently on a good victory track by winning 7 out of last 11 games they played. They are also on a record to limit their last 10 opponents under 99 points. They knocked out Thunders on Friday, February 25 and again secured a consecutive win against Charlottes on Sunday, February 27.
Magic would be playing their next game on Tuesday, March 1 against New York Knicks who created much hype after getting the giant players such as Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups from Denver Nuggets. Orlando has a great home game winning record against Knicks; they faced Knicks once this season December 30, 2001 and had a 112-103 win.
Dwight Howard remains the Magic true strength throughout this season and he has been named as the Player for the week for games played Monday, February 21 through Sunday, February 27. However Dwight is also on a high risk for a one game automatic suspension as he secured his 15th technical foul on Friday against Thunders. There is one more foul and he will be sitting outside court for one game and Orlando Magic is not in position to miss him even for a single game as they have 23 games to play before this season ends.
