Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Cambridge, Mass, March 29, 2011 - Business and thought-leaders in cyber crime (ecrime) response will join technologists and public policy officials from across the globe at the 5th annual Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) operations conference (CeCOS V), to be held on April 27-29, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, The conference will focus on the challenges faced by ecrime responders and the development of critical common resources for the forensic professionals and business managers who protect consumers and enterprises from electronic crime threats every day. According to Husin Jazri, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia, "Our success in comprehensively engaging electronic crime is hampered only to the degree to which we are divided. CeCOS conferences have one imperative: to unite the ecrime responder community so that it can better act in concert against the threats that menace enterprises and consumers worldwide." Husin further noted, "We are very excited to collaborate with APWG and have the conference in Malaysia for the first time. With each conference held in a different part of the world, the CeCOS conference helps build the community of responders who can share data, insights and local intelligence.
CeCOS V will present:
* International case studies by ecrime responders and security specialists about electronic crime’s advancement in their nations and regions;
* Presentations about technologies and techniques used by electronic crime gangs to exploit Internet infrastructure and user’s PCs and client devices;
* Probing the Dark Side of Social Media
* Global Report on Abuse of Top-Level Domains in eCrime Scams and Attacks
* Tools and Techniques for the eCrime Responder and Manager
* The German Counter-Botnet Project The Scourge of eCrime Attacks Against Mobile Devices

APWG Secretary General Peter Cassidy said, "Commercial security companies, national governments, international treaty organizations, law enforcement agencies, and industry associations the world over are increasingly looking for ways to coordinate their efforts and to share data that are useful for their investigations and for the protection of consumers." "At the annual CeCOS event, those professionals assemble to share their experiences, build their networks of trusted colleagues, and to exchange insights from their work in engaging electronic crime," Mr. Cassidy said.
CeCOS V, the second APWG conference held in Asia, is an open conference for members of the electronic-crime fighting community, hosted by the APWG and its Conference Partner MyCERT and sponsored by HitachiJoho, Google, and MarkMonitor. The CeCOS programs are widely considered the most vital events to investigators and managers of electronic crime from across private and public sectors. At previous CeCOS conferences in San Francisco, Tokyo, Barcelona, and Sao Paulo, the APWG has drawn hundreds of delegates from law enforcement agencies, technology companies, financial services firms, security services firms, government agencies, law firms, consumer advocacy groups, and research centers from around the globe, bringing together some of the most advanced counter-electronic crime thought leaders from East Asia, South Asia, Europe, South America and North America.
