Recycled plastic is environmentally friendly, durable and flexible, making it a particularly suitable alternative to more traditional materials when it is used to make a number of products. Recycling your plastic bottles and packaging has never been more important, but you can also recycle your plastic by simply using it again. Here are a number of simple and fun ways to do your own bit for the environment by using your plastic rather than throwing it away.
Get Creative With Recycled Plastic
If you like gardening then you will be able to find plenty of uses for recycled plastic. Plastic is durable and very robust against the elements, so put it to use as seed markers in the soil, or use a sturdy bottle to fashion a small spade for use in the garden when planting seeds or weeding.
If you want a fun project for kids then save up your plastic pots and containers to use them for planting seeds. Make a few holes in the bottom, fill it with earth and then plant whatever seeds you wish (sunflower seeds are particularly good) . This also allows you to teach children about the natural world at the same time.
Large plastic bottles make excellent bird feeders. Chop off the bottom of a bottle so it is a few inches high, cut a hole in two opposite sites, poke a stick through, then fill the bottom with bird feed. To create a more stylish bird feeder, place additional holes attached to a piece of string then place it outside your window.
Haven’t got the money to buy lots of new jewelery? Make it yourself! Some companies now specialize in jewelery made from recycled materials of all sorts, and recycled plastic is ideal. Just use your imagination and you will surely have a wide array of useful products.
Recycled plastics can be found anywhere in the home. Some companies produce items of furniture made exclusively from recycled plastic, but you don’t have to make your own furniture. Instead, you can create photo frames, decorations and lamps from plastic that you would otherwise throw away. When it comes to imagination, sky is the limit!
Recycled plastic can be use to create beautiful art project. Kids will have great fun doing this, and it’s a great way to teach them about recycling.
Several Benefits of Recycled Plastic
Aside from the above fun ways to recycle plastic, recycled plastic is used in many different ways. You can create books, clothing, handbags and several everyday objects out of recycled plastics.
Some furniture was created out of recycled plastic. As well as being more environmentally friendly than other traditional materials, it is also an excellent material in its own right. Recycled benches, for example, are durable, safe, versatile and very cost effective, which is why so many people are choosing them over timber models.
Recycling can be fun when you do it yourself, especially if you want to get creative or teach children about the benefits of recycling. But you don’t have to stop with your own creations: when it comes to buying new products such as furniture, always find out whether the item you want is available in recycled plastic and take advantage of all the benefits of this excellent material.
