As spring is the ‘kapha’ season as per Ayurveda, it needs special treatment and care as it is considered as one of the doshas defined by Ayurveda. The other doshas that is ‘vata’ and ‘pitta’ too have different approach in Ayurveda. ‘Kapha’ is the sycophantic material which is usually cold, heavy, sluggish, smooth and soft in texture and mostly static.
Accumulation of ‘Kapha’ is not a good thing as it leads to slowness in humans during the spring season. This heavy material also causes lethargy and other ailments which affect the general well-being of a person. During the spring season, Ayurveda practitioners advice people to wake up early that is before 6:00 A.M. and consume lukewarm water to cleanse the digestive tract. Along with it, it is suggested to perform ‘yoga’ and ‘pranayam’ to rejuvenate the body and mind as well. These help to balance the kapha domination in the human body during the spring season.
Usually, kapha gets accumulated during the cold and damp environment. Therefore, Ayurveda gives stress on keeping your body warm as it prevents the development of kapha in human body. People can take warm baths, sauna and sunbaths and should try to keep their house and surroundings warm. Moreover, using oil to massage the head and body proves helpful. Massage helps to get rid of dehydration and stocks up the skin with required moisture.
Apart from taking Ayurvedic measures, people must wear dry clothes during the spring season. Application of natural moisturizers after taking bath also proves helpful. Apart from this, the diet must also be modified to adjust with the changes of the spring season. For example, consumption of spring fruits and vegetables like asparagus, beet, cherries, strawberries, etc. can be included in your diet.
If people suffer from allergies during the spring, it lowers the immune system of a person. During spring, people usually suffer from sneezing and sniffling. This happens because ‘Ama’ factor (that is the toxic substance) in human body leads to allergy and a defensive attack. In such cases, Ayurvedic treatments like ‘pancha karma’ prove beneficial. This treatment helps to boost the digestive fire in humans, and perform the process of detoxification process to restore the strength of human immune system. To get the best and effective result from panchakarma, a disciplined approach and sincerity in practice is must.
