Hyundai Elevators to launch Double-decker elevators
• Elevator can reach speeds upto 600 meters (1,968.5 feet) per minute
Pune 17th May 2011-Pune based Kinetic’s JV Partner Hyundai Elevator Company Ltd. South Korea has accomplished developing what’s going to be the fastest double Decker elevator of its type in the World. Keeping the fast growing Infrastructure industry in mind Hyundai Elevators and Movement Technologies Ltd. has developed a double deck elevator capable of reaching speed of 600 meters per minute, and now it plans to complete developing an operating system capable of managing eight double deck elevators by September this year. In India Hyundai Elevators company (HELCO) is represented by a JV company Kinetic Hyundai Elevators and Movement Technologies Ltd.
Double-decker elevators are generally used in tall towers to improve efficiency and bring down energy consumption. Double-decker elevators are typically used for buildings with 40 stories or more. Maximum speed of it is up to move 600 meters (1,968.5 feet) per minute – is relatively faster compared to ordinary elevators in high-rise apartments, which travel 90 to 120 meters per minute and are expected to be twice as efficient from the ordinary ones. To increase efficiency further, often double-decker elevators are programmed to stop at only even- or odd-numbered floors.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director, Mr. Manish Motwani said “With a vision of developing best and safest people flow experience our JV Partner Hyundai Elevator, Korea’s biggest elevator maker in terms of sales, has finished the development of its own technology and one of the fastest and safest elevator of its kind. A double-decker elevator appears like two elevator cars attached to each other. As a result, the elevator visits two floors at the same time, raising the passenger capacity of the shaft.”
About Double-Deck elevators-
Double-deck elevators are designed with two elevator cars that are attached, one on top of the other. This allows passengers on two consecutive floors to be able to use the elevator simultaneously, significantly increasing the passenger capacity of an elevator shaft. Such a scheme can prove efficient in buildings where the volume of traffic would normally have a single elevator stopping at every floor.
Architecturally, this is important, as double-deck elevators occupy less building core space than traditional single-deck elevators do for the same level of traffic. In skyscrapers, this allows for much more efficient use of space, as the floor area required by elevators tends to be quite significant. (The other main technique is shared-shaft elevators, where multiple elevators use different sections of the same shaft to serve different floors, with sky lobbies separating the sections.)
