The beginning of the season for Grete started with early powder skiing at Snowbird, Alta and Brighton in Utah, while finishing up her semester of school. Grete managed to push through the allure of the powder and finished all of her Finals early. Upon finishing up finals, Grete was off to the races, Say My Name was shown at the Summit Action Film Festival, where she was awarded best Female Performance. After taking top honors at Summit Action Film Festival, Eliassen competed in the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, CO.
In January, Grete teamed up with Snowbird Resort and other Snowbird athletes Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and Forrest Shearer to talk about safety by the tram for the annual resort’s Safety Day. Not only were skiers and snowboarders reminded of the rules of safety on the mountain, but were able to meet their local resort heroes. In another attempt to spread the word about safety on the mountain, Grete teamed up with Julian Carr, Jeremy Nobis, Jen Hudak, Dr. Mark Scholl and Cody Barnhill demonstrating how skiers can make smart decisions in high-risk situations. As part of “Go Big, Safely” Grete, Julian and Dr. Scholl appeared on PCTV publicizing the event. http://espn.go.com/action/freeskiing/blog/_/post/6015500/pros-gather-snowbird-safety-talk
The end of January, Grete picked up her 6th X Games medal in Slopestyle with a bronze. And the same week at the Powder Magazine Video Awards she was awarded Best Female Performance for her skiing in her movie “Say My Name”. After winning medals and awards, Grete was off to compete in slopestyle for the Norway National Team at the FIS World Championships in Utah.
After the slopestyle contests were over, Eliassen was off to Baldface Lodge, BC to film for TGR’s “One For The Road” with skiers Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Dylan Hood and Dash Longe. The group of athletes was overwhelmed with blower powder and sat through more cable cam set-ups than they could imagine. Find behind the scenes footage of Grete’s trip to Baldface on ColdAsIce.TV ( http://coldasice.tv/tag/baldface/ ) and check out TGR’s film “One For The Road,” when it drops in Fall of 2011.
During the month of February, Grete met up with skier Devin Logan to ski urban in Minnesota. Grete took her first turns at Highland Hills and grew up skiing Lutsen Mountain when she was little. Red Bull made the dream of going home a reality. http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Video/At-home-with-Grete-Eliassen-021242988543423
Not only do you have to compete as a pro skier, but you also have to model gear, partake in photo shoots, etc. Grete makes it clear that she is an athlete/model and not the other way around. Watch this video and see Grete and a team of 20+ do her hair/make-up, location spotting and of course make sure the shot is just right. http://coldasice.tv/2011/04/grete-eliassens-oakley-photo-shoot-in-aspen-co-cold-as-ice-tv/
