Nottingham, United Kingdom, May 26th 2011 - The government has announced figures that show food prices rose by 4.7% in April of this year which signifies another month where the cost of living, and specifically the cost of eating, has grown almost out of control. During the main months of the recession, retailers' offers meant that the cost of living for many people actually worked at lower than current rates.
A rise in oil prices, a similar rise in grain prices, and a lack of consumer confidence means that food prices are soaring. March saw a 4% increase in prices while April was even worse with that 4.7% gain. These increases make it harder for people to eat healthily and to manage a full, balanced diet.
One option is to grow your own fruit and vegetables. This costs very little when compared to buying from the shops and even two or three window boxes or a small vegetable patch in the garden means that you can grow your own potatoes, tomatoes, and various other healthy and natural fresh foods while avoiding the inflationary rises that are being experienced in the supermarkets.
