ABB to be lead sponsor at Global Water Leakage Summit
ABB is to be the lead sponsor at the 5th Global Water Leakage Summit, to be held at the Thistle Marble Arch, London 28th – 29th June. As a leading provider of technology for water treatment and distribution applications, ABB will take a prominent role at the event, which provides a forum for the exchange of best practice in tackling water leakage.
“With millions of litres of water lost through leakage every day, leakage is still very much a pertinent issue for every water operator, no matter where they are around the world,” says Tim Door, Global Product Marketing Manager, for ABB’s Measurement Products business. “We have been involved with the event since it was created in 2006 and are very proud to be the lead sponsor for 2011, which will give us a platform to raise both the awareness of the issues connected with leakage and what can be done to resolve them.”
Tim Door will be chairing the panel discussions throughout the two day event, which will focus on topics including preparing for the effects of cold weather on water distribution networks and how to encourage greater innovation in managing leakage and non-revenue water.
He will also be jointly presenting with Tony Hoyle, ABB’s General Sales Manager for UK & Ireland at the technology innovation panel discussion on day two of the event, with the presentation covering ABB’s AquaMaster 3 flowmeter for water distribution and revenue management applications. The AquaMaster 3 incorporates several new features, including solar and wind energy options to power the meter in remote locations.
As a provider of flowmetering technology for leakage management applications, ABB has been involved in several key projects in the UK. This includes Project Neptune, a joint partnership with Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and seven UK universities aimed at using real-time data to help water utilities to better balance the issues of planning, water leakage, pressure management and energy management.
Another major application is Project Aquatrine, where ABB’s flowmeters played a key role in helping the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to hit its water consumption reduction target 11 years ahead of schedule through pinpointing existing and potential leaks.
As well as sponsoring the event, ABB will also be exhibiting its latest flow measurement technology that can be used to accurately pinpoint water leakage. Products on show at ABB’s stands (stand 1 and 2) will include the WaterMaster and AquaMaster 3 flowmeters.
The WaterMaster is ABB’s innovative, world class flowmeter for water and wastewater applications. With a wide flow range and unsurpassed accuracy, WaterMaster improves control and quality for applications in water treatment works and now features Profibus communications. A key feature is its revolutionary octagonal internal bore design that reduces sensitivity to flow profile disturbances. This results in outstanding performance in less than ideal installation conditions, allowing the flowmeters to meet the most stringent internal accuracy standards. Its buriable sensor eliminates the need for expensive meter chambers thereby providing a long, productive and maintenance-free asset life.
The AquaMaster 3 provides a total water management solution for revenue generation, district metering, water distribution, customer billing and leakage control. With the inclusion of renewable energy options in addition to mains and battery power, the AquaMaster 3 is a truly green device offering the highest levels of flow measurement accuracy.
Delivering unrivalled accuracy across an extremely wide range, the AquaMaster 3 is ideal for water networks with either high or low flow. By using the AquaMaster 3, operators can pinpoint even the smallest leaks as and when they happen, giving them the opportunity to rectify leaks quickly and easily.
There will also be a Gala Dinner event at the end of the first day of the event. Open to all delegates, the dinner will feature a charity auction on behalf of WaterAid, which works to provide the world's poorest people with safe domestic water and sanitation and education on hygiene.
Now in its fifth year, the Global Water Leakage Summit has established itself as a highly successful platform for raising awareness of water leakage issues. For more information, including how to register, visit http://www.global-leakage-summit-2011.com.
