As a specialist in waterproof electronics installations Selectronix has a range of enclosures rated at high IP levels. Some extruded Aluminium Enclosures have a rating of IP65, resistant to spray and jets of water – suitable for Automotive and weatherproof installations on buildings, Die Cast Aluminium and ABS enclosures meet the standards for IP66, which is suitable for waves and strong jets. IP66 is the minimum level of protection you would need for non-essential maritime installations and cockpit devices.
Polycarbonate Plastic Enclosures from Selectronix are available up to IP68 rated, which will cope with full immersions and pressurised surroundings, these are ideal for protecting essential equipment in maritime situations and even for external mounting on submerged and submersible locations. A Waterproof enclosure is only as sealed as its lowest rated component which is why Selectronix stock a range of supporting electronic components that retain the highest IP Rating possible for you custom equipment. IP68 Mini Metal Cable Glands tighten down over external cable runs allowing permanent external connectivity to equipment that will be submerged. If you need to be able to remove equipment a permanent Cable Gland may not be ideal, not only does it make handling the enclosure awkward, with a permanently affixed cable, but the constant movement within the restriction of the gland could lead to internal cable damage or even failure of the cable gland’s seal. The Souriau IP68 Circular Hybrid Connector is ideal for this as it provides a watertight seal, allows easy disconnection and reduces the need to further weaken a waterproof enclosure with further drilled holes. This is possible because the Circular Connector allows for connection of both Data and power through the same point, with three 1.6mm and three 1.0mm pins, which may also be replaced with fibre optic connections to enable high speed data transfer.
