As the number of single women opting for artificial insemination by donor continues to increase, so too does the need for knowledge of where this procedure has higher success rates and uses the best quality sperm donors Donor insemination Spain is considered to be a viable option for both single and partnered women due to the law concerning anonymity and the fact that there are some very good clinics in Spain also.
One of these clinics is Clinica Fertia, located in the Costa del Sol. This clinic has a strong track record of using excellent donors, procedures and success rates.
Dr. Elena Puente, who has been in charge of the Human Reproduction Unit of Clinica Fertia since 1992, said that one of the most important things for single women to realise is that this technique is easy and feasible.
The following is our interview with Dr. Puente of Clinica Fertia.
Q: So Dr. Puente, what are the clinic’s success rates for artificial insemination by donor?
A: “The pregnancy rate for donor insemination in our hands is 25%, we try to get sperm donors who have similar physical features as the women have.”
Clinica Fertia understands that women considering donor insemination have concerns about how thoroughly and how frequently the donors are screened. Lots of women are also concerned about why men become sperm donors in the first place. This is a very important question, as the answer may reveal quite a lot about the type of person the woman could be involved with as a sperm donor.
Q: What kind of sperm donors does Clinica Fertia use?
A: “We work with three different sperm banks, so we can get whatever the features are needed. The process is anonymous, and it is not this way in many other countries in Europe. And many women do prefer to keep their privacy.
Many of the donors are students, two of the banks we work with are located at big cities in Spain with a big university (Granada and Barcelona), so they advertise for students, many of which are studying medicine, biology and other health careers and this means they are more sensitive to the issue.”
Q: What kind of screening of sperm donors does Clinica Fertia implement?
A: “Donors are tested for a huge variety of infectious diseases, every six month and are also tested for genetic disorders. All of them are screened for chromosomal abnormalities as well as cystic fibrosis. They can father six children maximum, according to the Spanish law for reproduction. We send all the information about our positive tests to these three banks every month, so there is a very strict follow up.”
Q: Why do you describe the process as easy and feasible?
A: “The whole process is very simple, it is possible not to use any drugs and just follow a spontaneous cycle. We recommend this when women are young.
And if they use drugs in order to produce more than one egg, we use very soft stimulation, so we can get a good pregnancy rate of 25%, but no multiple pregnancies; our percentage for multiple pregnancy is lower than 8%.
We just have twins, never ever triplets. We are a very conservative clinic, as we are very concerned about multiple pregnancies.”
If you are a single woman considering artificial insemination by donor in Spain, Clinica Fertia is an excellent choice because of the combination of success rates, quality of donors and conservative approach.
