"Scania Australia is fast building it’s reputation as the preferred brand in the heavy vehicle industry with companies like Woolworths and Linfox selecting Scania Trucks for their fleet."
Woolworths and Linfox have joined commercial truck manufacturer, Scania, to cut greenhouse gas emissions in Australia.
Woolworths has accepted the challenge to reduce its transport emissions by 25% over the next two years. To this end, it has contracted with Scania to purchase five new trucks with Enhanced Environmentally Friendly emission standard engines.
The company took delivery of eight new Scania P380 trucks, four of which were twin steer units, for its operations in South Australia. Later, it was confirmed that five new twin-steer P280 Euro 5 with Enhance Environmentally Friendly emission standard engines would be joining the fleet in Perth for WA operations. This setup includes integrated on-board axle scales complete with dashboard readouts to ensure loads are within regulations as well as allowing easier distribution of goods to suit more efficiently planned delivery routes which will further support emission control.
Linfox has also committed to reduce its transport emissions with a stringent Green Strategy Plan (dubbed Greenfox) which aims to reduce transport emissions by 15% by 2010, based on 06/07 figures. This effort is directed at reduced power consumption at its facilities and by employing the most efficient vehicles possible. To achieve this goal, Linfox has purchased four new highly efficient Scania P420 SCR Euro 5 Prime Movers. Using its logistic expertise, Linfox is also aiming to boost vehicle efficiency through intelligent route planning and by training its drivers to operate the vehicles with economy in mind.
With its commitment to the environment and efficiency, Scania is making serious moves into the Australian Transport Industry by combining with companies like Linfox and Woolworths who are equally committed.
