Raleigh – July 28, 2011 -- On June 26th, two local high school students were presented with a $1000 check and congratulated as the winners of the 2011 Community Swimming Association of Greensboro (CSA) and Pool Professionals Annual Partnership Scholarship.
The scholarship recognizes swimmers and coaches who best demonstrate the core values of leadership, team spirit, enthusiastic participation and dedication to the CSA.
Each year, Pool Professionals assembles a scholarship committee to review the applicants and chose scholarship recipients. This year’s winners were 18-year-old Camden Oaks and 18-year-old Sean Spillane.
Camden Oaks, a senior at Northwest Guilford High School, has been swimming with the CSA for the past 7 years, since he was 11-years-old.
Camden has never missed a practice, swim meet, or team social event. But he still found time to volunteer to teach free swim clinics for underprivileged kids.
Camden’s dedication to his team and to the sport is obvious to everyone around him. He consistently sets an example for the younger swimmers that "participation and having fun, not winning, are the most important parts about summer league."
Sean Spillane, a senior at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, has been swimming with the CSA for the past 10 years.
Sean is another high achiever, with a litany of honors and achievements to his name, including several academic awards, and several years of service to the community.
Sean has proved himself a hard worker and dedicated athlete, and even volunteered as a coach when he found out the coaching staff for this CSA team was already full.
"These are two of the most driven and mature candidates we’ve ever had," said Pool Professionals President and Founder, David Harvey. "They have made their parents, teammates and coaches proud, and now we are proud to present them with the 2011 CSA and Pool Professionals Annual Partnership Scholarship."
