Looking to replace existing clotheslines this spring, a housing authority in Missouri began a search with better quality and durability in mind for their next purchase. The result of their search led them to one unit in which the two factors came together: the Hills Hoist. This search was a direct result of stimulus money received from the Federal Government. Their challenge was to meet the laundry drying needs of residents by providing them with longer-lasting clotheslines. The catch was the stimulus money had to be used for products that are clean, green and environmentally friendly.
For decades Hills has been making the world’s best clothesline; nothing can match its quality and durability. It is manufactured to be the last clothesline a customer would need to buy. What better way to spend the government stimulus money?
Jimmie D. of the Nevada Housing Authority, was charged with the task of identifying, purchasing and installing the replacement clotheslines. He plans to have the units installed and operational for the start of spring. The Authority sees their return-of-investment as being a year or less when compared to the alternative of increasing electricity costs to run clothes dryers. Americans rely heavily on electric dryers, and this appliance can account for up to 20% of a household’s energy use per month.
As part of the Obama Stimulus Plan, monies have been made available to Housing Authorities for green and sustainable improvements.
