XLRI Jamshedpur has made the announcement of XAT 2012, which is going to be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012. With more and more MBA entrance exams changing their mode from paper pencil based test to computer based test, the question prevailed for XAT as well. In a recent announcement, XLRI has announced that XAT will remain a paper pencil based test like the erstwhile years in order to ensure a fair test for all.
XLRI states, “The format of XAT would remain pencil-paper based. This is to ensure that candidates of all backgrounds are at par, so that those who have pre-familiarity of operating computers, specially coming from privileged background or having worked in IT sector, do not get any advantage over others who do not have access to computers. The paper-pencil mode also ensures that all candidates are tested on exactly the same set of questions, and not on different sets.”
Talking about the exam content, XLRI Jamshedpur mentions, “XAT constantly innovates and explores new question structures, keeping the basic concepts same. This has been guided by the philosophy that each generation has more advantages of education facilities, knowledge bases, access to technology etc., and therefore should be tested accordingly.”
Adding to this point, XLRI said, “XAT was the first entrance exam in the country to incorporate business decision- making situations, and questions to test the ethical decision making qualities of the applicants. XAT had always considered un-structured answer as a critical supplement in the evaluation of the candidates. This was evaluated in the Essay writing component. In XAT 2011, essay was replaced by an open-ended question which tested applicants ability to reason analytically and convey the same in a structured manner.”
So as per tradition, this year too, you can expect some change in the pattern of the XAT paper. But XLRI has offered a suggestion for the XAT takers. “The only requirement of the candidates is that they should be in constant touch with the basics - the arithmetic that is taught in school is sufficiently rigorous. The same goes for other sections. The only problem we see every year, is that, candidates getting out of touch with the basics, and try to cover up everything in the last couple of months. Ideal preparation for XAT should include a daily touch with all the concepts and mock test under time constraints. That will allow the candidates to test themselves in a more realistic setting and improve on their short-comings.”
While talking about the kind of students XLRI looks for, the institute Director Fr. E Abraham told MBAUniverse.com, “We look for Analytical skills, openness to new ideas; ability to learn; ability to work in teams and ethical and social orientation. “ For the XLRI aspirants, Fr. Abraham said, “The aspiring students should not be carried away by peer pressure in choosing the institutes and the programs. Success depends on how well the students can match themselves with the opportunities available and decide on the best program.”
The registration process for XAT 2012 will start from Tuesday, September 20, 2011. The application fee will remain the same as last year, which is Rs. 900.
