Los Angeles, CA, September 02, 2011 - The Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Airport Hotel is proud to announce the achievement of Green Seal’s bronze level certification under the GS-33 Standard for Lodging Properties. This accomplishment verifies that the hotel meets a rigorous set of environmental standards designed to reduce impact on the environment and human health.
“Our certification with Green Seal speaks to the determination of our staff to take a stand for environmental stewardship and put action to our values,” states Moussa Ndiaye, hotel manager. “This was truly a team effort, and I am very proud to work with such a dedicated team.”
The hotel general manager, Michael Payton, states that decision to become Green Seal-certified stemmed from two emerging trends: the growing awareness of environmental concerns among travelers, and the need to verify and quantify environmental practices. “The Green Seal standard provided us with both the road map and the accountability measurement we needed to confidently move ahead in our sustainability efforts,” states Payton.
Becoming Green Seal-certified is no small feat. Hotels must implement and document practices that minimize waste, improve energy efficiency, conserve water, improve indoor air quality, reduce harmful chemical usage, and demonstrate commitment to environmental purchasing. There are currently less than 125 hotels worldwide that have earned certification through Green Seal.
The Crowne Plaza LAX participated in the Gateway to a Greener L.A. initiative, a business community program that provided resources to businesses within the district to implement green practices that lead to measurable environmental improvement. The program was led by Julie Baylor, a green hospitality consultant in Los Angeles, who provided guidance and direction through the certification process. To date, the program has resulted in four Green Seal-certified hotels within the district, representing nearly 40% of the business district’s hotel guestroom inventory.
