The 18th annual British Rowing Tour took place at the weekend and seventy rowers paddled on despite the wind and rain.
For three days rowers took to the Lancaster Canal from Preston to Tewitfield, Lancashire. Organised by Weyfarers Rowing Club, in association with Lancaster John O’Gaunt RC, 15 crews from 27 rowing clubs crossed the 41-mile waterway.
It is highly likely that all competitors would have undergone some serious indoor rowing machine training in advance of the tour to cope with the duration needed to oar.
One specialist site in which all professional and amateur rowers can learn to perfect their rowing technique is rowingmachine.com, which offers training strategies and movements with video tutorials and workout guides.
Shop for the best rowing machines in the reputable online store and search and compare different rowing machines with the detailed guides, whether it is a stamina rowing machine you need or a concept 2 rowing machine that you would prefer.
The rowers from the British Rowing Tour could have benefited from Rowing Machine’s fitness guides and skills information to prevent injuries and muscle damage; and they could have browsed all-round workouts and tips in the comprehensive knowledge base.
The majority of the boats that set off from the University of Central Lancashire Sports Arena in Preston were stable, coxed quads but there were also two Solent Galleys, a Dutch wherry and an Alden Double scull.
It was the largest British Rowing Tour to date and is the first time that anyone has rowed the waterway in its entirety. The Lancaster Canal has more than 130 bridges and eight aqueducts making it England’s longest stretch of canal with no locks.
The participants faced various challenges throughout the weekend including narrow sections that needed to be negotiated with canoe paddles and some narrow bridges which required oars to be shipped at exactly the right time.
Each crew was presented with a brass commemorative plaque at the end of the tour lunch by the Chairman of the Lancaster Canal Trust.
