Having a good web design is very important as it makes any web page more business generating and is also required to ensure good search engine result positions. Algorithm of many search engines pays high attention towards the web design and structure in order to judge the worthiness of any web page.

Web site design is a wide term and is responsible for the overall success of any web page or web site. By definition web design is to make web pages as per the requirement and give web site a attractive look but going into dept web site design is responsible for many more factors including search engine result position (SERP). Many web site owners rely over the search engine optimisation in order to increase the traffic over a web site and paid traffic is also a highly effective method of getting traffic to web site but just getting visitors is not the objective web pages must have ability to convert any lead into a customer and web design plays very important role to convert any visitor into customer.
Web sites are considered to be the one way communication medium for example any web page can offer a piece of information but is not able to answer the queries of visitors instantly. New technologies like web 2.0 some how tries to shorten this gap by providing many cutting edge web communication solutions but this also has it's own limitations. Objective of any web site is to generate business and web design is quite important for this. If we go through Google analytics data then we see that most of the sites have quite high bounce rates and 20 to 30 percent bounce rate is considered to be quite fair for any web site. On an average around 50 percent bounce rate can be observe most commonly over web sites. Means 50 percent of visitors were not interested in the web page or they were looking for something else. A good web design can reduce bounce rates and eventually increase the profit generating capabilities for a particular web site.
As mentioned earlier web site design in not only helpful in reducing bounce rates but it also helps in getting top search engine result positions. Algorithm used by Google and other major search engines to rank the web sites monitors thousands of factors related to a particular web page. Web site design is an important factor mainly because of two reasons. Firstly web site design significantly impacts size of any web page which is associated with the downloading time on server, Any good web site design must try to keep the size of any web page as low as possible as search engines do not like heavy pages which takes enough time to download on web servers. Here question arises that in some cases it is quite important to include important information and videos over a page and thus minimum size concept lacks the practical approach. There are sites with tonnes of data but still have very low disk space or size for example you tube and Google itself. HTML linking is very effective way to minimize the size of your web page while giving a space to every desired information on the same web page. Use of heavy images and banners may attract your visitors but makes web site very heavy for downloading on a slow connection system. Secondly Major search engines have defined a optimal web structure and give priority to sites having the same structure more popularly known as latent semantic indexing (LSI). LSI gives insights to the optimal web structure with internal linking which significantly improves over the SERP.
