Leadingage Joins The Private Duty Homecare Association To Educate Families

PDHCA Webinar Series Educates Elderly & Families about In-Home Care Options & Addresses the Issues Seniors Face.
D.C, Washington, United States of America (prbd.net) 21/09/2011
Washington, D.C - September 19, 2011 -- The Private Duty Homecare Association (PDHCA) today announced LeadingAge as the next webinar partner in the PDHCA “Help Choose Home” educational webinar series. LeadingAge is an association of not-for-profit organizations dedicated to advancing policies, promoting practices and conducting research that supports, enables and empowers people to live fully as they age. PDHCA and LeadingAge will come together on October 11, 2011 to present on the topic "Signs that In-Home Care is Needed."

"LeadingAge is proud to participate in the “Help Choose Home” webinar series to help older individuals and caregivers navigate care choices,” said Peter Notarstefano, Director of Home and Community-Based Services for LeadingAge. “We want to lend our support to assist older individuals who want to remain independent in the community".

One of the main concerns of families with aging loved ones is how to know when extra care is needed. If an elderly relative does not live near family, the signs of struggling to complete tasks associated with activities of daily living can be easily missed. PDHCA’s discussion, co-presented by Peter Notarstefano, an aging expert from LeadingAge, will be an invaluable presentation of the telltale indicators that additional care is needed. The interactive webinar discussion will cover topics such as: what can be done as a family caregiver to help frail loved ones; how in-home care assists long distance family situations; and the introduction of checklists for care.

“About 54 million Americans provide some level of care to an adult family member or friend, and it is absolutely critical to arm these caregivers, their doctors and the elderly with potentially life-changing information about home care options,” said Val J. Halamandaris, president of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice.

"As facilitator of the webinar series, I have experienced how committed and engaged people have become to learning more about the possibilities of in-home care, to ensure quality of life at home," said Merrily Orsini, Chief Strategic Officer, PDHCA. “Those that attend the "Help Choose Home” webinars bring their personal questions and take away expert advice from our partners in the industry like LeadingAge."
