Most people think that plastic surgeons only cater to the rich and famous who hate themselves. Local Plastic Surgeon Dr. Kevin Sadati aims to break that image. There are far reaching applications for the correction of serious sinus problems that dovetail nicely into the realm of plastic surgery. As a rhinoplasty expert, Dr. Sadati consults with many patients suffering from a condition known as Chronic Sinusitis. According to the Orange County Nose and Sinus Center’s website, “Many patients with chronic sinusitis become frustrated by failed attempts to end their symptoms. Therefore, it is imperative that a sinus specialist offer a comprehensive treatment that addresses all specific underlying problems.”
Chronic Sinusitis affects millions of Americans every year, making their lives miserable. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Chronic sinusitis typically lasts more than 4 weeks and occurs more than 4 times per year and can be caused by nasal polyps or tumors, allergies, or respiratory tract infections (viral, bacterial, or fungal), among other reasons.” Symptoms can present in a variety of ways and often interfere with even the most basic of daily function. They often include: headaches, fatigue, cough, fever, and sore throat. These symptoms at best are a nuisance and at worst can be debilitating. Occasionally, a course of antibiotics may clear up the infection. However, they have been proven ineffective in cases of environmental irritation or a genetic predisposition to sinus inflammation. Allergic rhinitis, inflamed nasal allergy, can also make life miserable for sufferers.
What, then, are the options for patients who suffer from chronic symptoms of these conditions? Patients will more than likely be referred to an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. Besides medications, there are corrective surgical avenues available. Endoscopic surgery is one option provided by the Orange County Nose and Sinus Center. According to the website http://www.orangecountynosejob.com :
“The purpose of endoscopic sinus surgery is to open and widen the sinuses’ drainage sites that are either narrowed or are blocked. The reason it is termed an endoscopic surgery because the surgeon uses a small telescopic instrument with a light and a camera lens at the end to visualize and treat the inside of the nose. There are no external facial incisions with endoscopic technique. Consequently, there is less morbidity and complications associated with this type of surgery as compared to an open or non endoscopic sinus surgical approach. Endoscopic sinus surgery offers faster recovery with less pain and it will not affect the external appearance of the face or nose.”
While the term “Nose Job” is generally interpreted as an aesthetic procedure, physicians such as Dr. Sadati are often double board certified in Plastic Surgery and Ear, Nose, and Throat specialties. The goal of the Center is to treat the patient on a holistic and systemic level, particularly if there is a persistent medical problem. Fortunately, the office can treat both aesthetic as well as persistent medical issues such as chronic sinusitis. The Center is equipped to handle any procedure, endoscopic or otherwise, to correct symptoms arising from an illness or irritation of the sinus or nasal area.
While many believe that plastic surgeons only concern themselves with appearance, the Orange County Nose and Sinus Center can leverage their ENT expertise to correct a variety of problems with nasal allergies and sinusitis. With Dr. Sadati, his credentials have proven that he can do more than just a pretty face!
