Australia is the world's leading exporter of coal and has vast reserves of natural gas. It currently ranks third for being the biggest LNG exporter in the Asia Pacific region. It has been revealed that in 2010 alone, Australia consumed almost twice the amount of crude oil and gas liquids that it produced. The country has eight refineries in total, of which seven are functioning at the moment. This Oceania country is also greatly reliant on coal for its electrical power generation as more than 75% of power generation comes through this natural resource, followed by oil, gas and then hydro. Focus is being shifted on bringing more of natural gas in use for power production, although coal would continue to be used extensively for the purpose until 2014.
