Durham, NC - September 19, 2011 -- Earlier this year ShopBot Tools introduced their entry into the small-footprint CNC market with the ShopBot Desktop. Ted Hall, Founder and CEO of ShopBot, said, "The response to the Desktop has been great, from hobbyists, to small and mid-size business owners, to educators. With input from our users, we're positioning the ShopBot Desktop as a platform for all kinds of digital fabrication capabilities."
Though it takes up only 3-feet by 3-feet of shop space, the ShopBot Desktop delivers power and precision on the order of ShopBot's full-size industrial tools. In addition to impressive woodworking capabilities, the Desktop features engraving-level precision and the power and rigidity to machine parts from plastic, aluminum, and other materials. The Desktop is ready to perform a wide range of workbench, prototyping and production projects.
The ShopBot Desktop comes in either one of two basic platforms: the Desktop Package with Router [Porter Cable 2 1/4hp Router], for $5,353.95; or the Desktop Package with Industrial Spindle [HSD 0.8hp spindle/VFD], for $6,590.00 (shipping and bit kits are additional -- see shopbottools.com for the details.)
Says Hall, "You can build on these platforms to suit your interests in a multitude of ways." By adding The Plotter Pen Bit, you can draw signatures, logos or other images. The Drag Knife Bit enables your ShopBot Desktop to cut adhesive-backed sign vinyl, paper, cardboard and thin plastics, and a Diamond Engraving Bit lets you engrave plastic, metal, glass and stone with impressive precision. You can also add ShopBot's 3D Digitizing Probe to make a copy of an object in 3D.
ShopBot will roll out a Rotary Indexing Tool add-on for the Desktop in October 2011, with plans to introduce 3D printing capability and laser cutting in the near future. Martha Barbour, Business Manager for ShopBot, added, "The Desktop is a sturdy tool; we didn't cut any corners to offer a smaller-footprint machine.
