After years of difficult dealing with drug addicts and drugs criminal, it still remains a mystery for governments of several countries to reason out why people fall for it. Moreover a question raised by psychiatrists I UN conference as to why the number of in Netherlands is low in comparison to addicts of many countries when cannibal is legal in Netherlands?
Thought provoking indeed! Was he suggesting that New Zealand drug rehab should be legalized all over in hope that it automatically will curb the population of addicts? No, but what he said cannot be denied as a lot of people are attracted towards it in order to prove themselves audacious and daring to commit a crime. A peccadillo though.
A lot many people therefore consider addicts as morally fallen (for they choose to commit crime) people. However this is a shallow understanding of situation. Not every addict is fallen; there are a lot of factors that work for and against a person to make him an addict.
Individuals of every stature can be found undergoing drug treatment in Drug detox and rehab centers is enough prove that there isn’t one factor acting as a cause for addiction. The issue is not limited to a selected segment of society. Drug addiction is not a mental disease; it’s just a mental imbalanced situation where victim fails to break through his habit of drug usage. This problem however has become more serious due to untrue stories as well as insufficient concern for addicts in the society.
Such prejudices formed against addicts, makes it difficult for them to recover. Despite the advancement of technology, communication has definitely declined in our society leading to solitude. This solitude is undesired and leads to depression and fatal addictions. The sudden upsurge of drug addiction is an indication that society has been too busy to even care for its people. Hence drug detox and rehab centers are generally situated away from the civil areas.
Among several patients coming to drug detox and Rehab centers in Panama, majority of them suffer from depression. Social rejection does not only causes depression but also causes relapse of sober addicts.
Irrespective of causes, the results are hazardous in both the case. Countries have lost many youngsters, expecting mothers, teenagers and elders at the hands of drugs with thought provoking question posed by Dr. Alfred it has become a social issue of debate in countries suffering loss of life due to drug addiction.
Difference between addicts and criminals should be realized by sober citizens. Programs offering basic knowledge of drug addiction, what causes it and how to detect it at an early stage, how to behave with an addict etc must be thought in colleges and offices so that a more friendly environment is created for addicts, that in result will be helpful for addicts to become sober.
