Most IRA owners are not aware that directing their IRA or other retirement plans into real estate can lead to a lifetime of tax free monthly income. It is a daunting task for most people to choose the right type of investment in today’s economy. Previously people invested their money into mutual funds, stocks, and bonds, etc but the scenario has completely changed during the recent years.
According to Thom Garlock, Founder, at IRAassets.com, “Owning real estate in a self directed IRA is easy. Income producing real estate is often selected as an alternative to other types of investments like stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. For many retirement plans, real estate is considered one of the best types of investments, as it can generate monthly income as well as provide protection from inflation. There are basic rules investors need to follow. Based upon the IRS regulations one cannot invest their IRA into life insurance or collectibles including art works, antiques, gems, stamps, coins, etc. The IRA can be used to buy residential and commercial properties that generate rental income and potential long-term gains tax free, since all the gains flow back into the IRA. It’s important to know that the money in your IRA cannot be used to purchase a property in which you are now living or plan on living in the future. The rules are easy to understand and in place so that when you do retire, you can comfortably live off the savings accumulated in the IRA account”
He also added that, “Most real estate investors have a misconception that they cannot invest their IRA funds into property, but the fact is by using a Self Directed IRA which they control, they can own investment real estate or use their capital for any type of traditional investment including mutual funds, stocks, and bonds. The real estate IRA allows investors to take advantage of today’s bargain property prices available across the country. There is a growing number of experts in this specialized field, so always seek the help of your CPA when you select the type of retirement plan for real estate investing.”
