Submerged Arc Welding or SAW is a welding or fabrication process wherein the metals are joined together by generating heat with an arc between the work surface and the bare metal electrodes. Granular fusible material which works a shield to protect the arc is used in this process. Pressure is not used in this process and filler metals are obtained from the supplementary welding rod or from the electrode. Just like any other arc welding process, SAW welding process also requires a particular welding wire known as SAW wire.
