IADT Detroit Fashion Design Students Make Their Stitch On Detroit Fashion Week 2011

IADT-Detroit Fashion Design Students Are Celebrated At Detroit Fashion Week 2011.

Detroit, MI (IADT) October 17, 2011 -- IADT-Detroit students were well represented at Detroit Fashion Week 2011. There were a total of five IADT-Detroit http://www.iadt.edu/Detroit Students who showcased their original designs in the student showcase as part of several fashion related events that were held in conjunction with Detroit Fashion Week. The week-long fashion event kicked off with a preview party at the new Emagine Theater in downtown Royal Oak, complete with a red carpet entry into the theater. Guests were greeted with live music, a comedy show, fashion walk, and acrobatics show.

Five talented IADT-Detroit students were selected to showcase their work in the Detroit Fashion Week Student Showcase that was held at Willy’s Overland Lofts. Eighteen student representatives from eight Michigan colleges and university fashion programs were hand selected to be in the showcase, including IADT-Detroit http://www.iadt.edu/Detroit students: BreAnne Galanek (Alumni), Mariella Amador, Jesia Swift, Danielle Mansoor, and Sarah Luther. The IADT-Detroit students showcased a diverse selection of work from swimwear and modern day classics to other creative fashions. International Academy of Design and Technology student Mariella Amador was awarded with the first ever Katerina Bocci Heart of Design Award. The award was established by noted Fashion Designer Katerina Bocci to recognize young designers that are making their mark on the industry.

Detroit Fashion Week 2011 came to a close with the Detroit Fashion Week Designer Showcase at the Detroit Public Library’s main branch. The runway show was held in the Adam Strom Hall on the second floor of the historic Woodward Avenue Library. Guests were able to enjoy the inspiring fashion designs and stunning architecture during the runway show. Preparations for the runway show began hours before the 9 p.m. start time. An array of stylists, models, seamstresses, designers, and support staff worked right up to the last minute making sure every stitch was perfect.
