Essentially, a PDU is a power strip ( http://www.iscdfw.com/ ) designed to deliver continuous power in a network environment. Popular types of PDU systems include:
- Basic power distribution units—Provides reliable power distribution to multiple pieces of equipment in a network. A basic PDU ( http://www.iscdfw.com/ ) provides outlets for the devices installed into a rack enclosure from a conditioned power source.

Get the Right PDU for Your Site.
- AC and DC-powered PDUs have different connectors, so make sure to select the PDU needed to match your AC or DC power supply.
- Though budget may be a factor, don't skimp on quality. Look for industry certifications such as UL and a powder-coated metal chassis instead of plastic and confirm the manufacturer has a track record for reliability.
- For small deployments, find a solution with a web interface, which allows access and control from any network-connected PC. Also, look for a PDU that allows you to remotely reboot equipment on a per-port basis without the need to toggle the entire unit.
- Large organizations require SNMP-capable PDUs, which enables power control as part of an industry-standard SNMP management system.
