MIAMI - Tony Argiz, Chairman and CEO of the nationally recognized public accounting firm Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra, LLC (MBAF), was recently honored alongside his wife Conchi Argiz with the United Way of Miami-Dade's Tocqueville Award for Outstanding Philanthropy. Argiz has served as the United Way of Miami-Dade's past chairman of the board and past campaign chair.
United Way of Miami-Dade Tocqueville Society members are individuals and families who contribute at least $10,000 a year to better the community through United Way. Last year alone, the 657-member United Way Tocqueville Society contributed nearly $17 million dollars to better the community through United Way. The society was named after Alexis de Tocqueville, a French immigrant who wrote extensively about the unique spirit of voluntarism he witnessed in America during the 1800's. The award is presented annually to individuals who have rendered outstanding service as a volunteer, demonstrated sustained philanthropy and inspired others to do likewise.
"I learned the importance of giving at an early age. I got involved with the United Way nearly 20 years ago," said Argiz. "They do so much for the community on such a broad spectrum, and I truly believe in the work they do and how they impact people's lives."
Argiz received the award during the United Way Tocqueville Grand Reception at the Coral Gables Estates home of Constance and Mike Fernandez in front of more than 350 of Miami's most generous givers. Unique to this year, United Way Worldwide hosted its annual Million Dollar Roundtable weekend in Miami, and 20 philanthropic couples from around the country, leaders in their own communities and respective fields of business, were also in attendance.
Argiz has been recognized as a community and business leader with various awards including one of the "Top Five Most Admired Peers" by INSIDE Public Accounting 100, 2011 Alumni of the Year by FIU's School of Accounting, the Neal J. Menachem Memorial Award by the Miami-Dade/Broward County State of Israel Bonds and the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews Silver Medallion Humanitarian Award. He has also been recognized with the Top CPAs in Litigation Support, Key Partners in Litigation Support Award, Hispanic Heritage Award, Business of the Year Award, Ultimate CEO and Excellence in Accounting for Litigation Support, to name a few.
Argiz is also active in other civic and key industry organizations including serving as past president and chair of the Orange Bowl Committee, past chairman of the Miami Dade College Foundation, past chairman of the Council of 100 at Florida International University, Executive Committee member of The Beacon Council, chair of the Board of Trustees at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, and board member of AvMed Health Plans. He has served on the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Nominations Committee, on the governing body of the AICPA's Council and on the PCP Executive Committee and its Technical Issues Committee. In 1986, Tony was appointed to Florida's Board of Accountancy and was then elected to chair the board and chaired its Probable Cause Panel as well. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
Conchi is involved with Belen Jesuit Preparatory School and Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. She is also a member of Junior League of Greater Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital's Golden Angels. Both husband and wife are members of the Tocqueville Society.
