Financial Planning is growing in importance for the average Malaysian. Uncertain economic times, changing legislation, the proliferation of new financial products and lack of time, make it difficult for individuals to use their resources effectively.
A well designed financial plan can help individuals manage their finances effectively and along the way, give them a greater sense of financial security.
The Financial Planning Standards Board defines financial planning as a process of developing strategies to assist clients in managing their financial affairs to meet life goals.
But, what is involved in financial planning? Many people tend to equate financial planning with investment management or buying insurance and unit trusts, and neglect the other components that are just as important to financial independence. Reducing taxes, providing adequate capital for retirement and protecting our families through proper estate planning are key concerns as well.
One common misconception is that people must have a lot of money to benefit from financial planning. In fact financial planning can sometimes be the greatest help to someone who is just starting out and wants to build their financial future from ground up.
